Night Sky
Standing out in the fields of Eastern Washington on a clear and chilly night in early March, there were views like this in every direction! Thank you to Bryan and the other friends of the Spokane Astronomical Society for sharing views from your telescopes of the planets, stars, nebulas and other celestial wonders visible overhead!

Evening Glow
Looking to the northwest from our viewing spot, you could start to see the Milky Way appear above the faint glow along the horizon. Each of these night-time shots was taken with a 3-second exposure on my iPhone 15.

Stars and Trees
This view of the eastern sky featured a sprinkling of stars above the silhouettes of a stand of pine trees.

Southern Sky
As the sky filled with stars, a familiar constellation appeared in the south – Orion the hunter with his belt of three stars. I believe the bright star in the lower center is Sirius, and you can see Mars as the bright point of light near the top on the left side of this image.

Celestial Neighbors
I spent a clear, cold evening in early March with a friend and his big telescope out in the scablands of Eastern Washington near Sprague. Just after sunset, you could see the crescent moon with Venus above and to the right (which was also in its crescent phase, although you needed his telescope to see that). One third of the way up from the ground to Venus, that small dot of light is the planet Mercury racing around the sun.

Three Dog Couch
Visiting my wife’s sister and nephew/niece near Tacoma, it was challenging to find a place to sit when their dogs took over the sofa. Everyone looks quite comfortable!

Anniversary View
For our 39th anniversary, Elaine and I spent the night at the classic Davenport Hotel in downtown Spokane. It was the first time that either of us had stayed there, so they upgraded us to a corner suite on the 12th floor that had this impressive view of downtowns different architectural styles.

Crackle
During the cold days of mid-February, I enjoyed finding crackle patterns in the ice along our street.

Runway Lights
Leaving Oakland for our flight home to Spokane, the green-hued tarmac, runway and distant lights, and their reflection on the clouds above created three distinct horizontal sections in the view out the airplane window.

Auspicious Cranes
”Going Away, Coming Home” by Chinese-born artist Hung Liu fills a wall of windows in the Oakland airport’s terminal. Based on a 12th Century painting, it offers the traditional blessing of peace and prosperity to the travelers walking by on their way to a connecting flight or to meet family and friends.

Downtown SF
Flying into the Bay Area, I caught this view of downtown San Francisco. The Golden Gate Bridge is in the upper right, the Bay Bridge in the lower center, and the city’s skyline fills the middle of the image.

The Long Beach airport’s oversized hashtag hides a sandy play area and picnic seating right behind it. And you don’t have to go very far to board your plane here.

The Carnival Radiance’s crew, who hailed from dozens of countries, were recognized at a show that filled the stage with their flags.

Vertical Atrium
A glass elevator rises in the 10-story atrium on the Carnival Radiance cruise ship. The lines and lights create an interesting image.

Musical Fountain
This musical water fountain on the Ensenada waterfront attracted little kids and pet dogs to the intermittent splashes and surprise squirts!

Fish Tacos
I rarely take photos of food, but these colorful fish tacos at Ensenada’s Tacos Don Zefe tasted even better than they looked!
