Rainbow Arch
This rainbow that reached from ground to ground was just one of nearly a dozen rainbows we saw between rain showers while driving across the northern Central Valley. A good sign on our way home to Spokane after Christmas 2025 to complete our round-trip journey to New Mexico.

Arturo on Stage
Cuban jazz performer Arturo Sandoval took center stage in the Disney Concert Hall, playing the trumpet, drums and keyboard in a performance just before Christmas. The bongo drummer to his left is actor Andy Garcia, who played Arturo in a recent biopic!

Disney Concert Hall
Our daughters presented us with tickets to see Cuban jazz legend Arturo Sandoval at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in downtown Los Angeles. Frank Gehry, the modern architect who designed the amazing building, passed away just a few weeks before our visit.

Orange Blooms
These aloe principis blooms light up a corner of the desert section in the Huntington Gardens during our visit in December.
-
Cactus Garden
The Huntington Gardens near Pasadena have a remarkable display of desert plants, including this colorful panorama of prickly cacti.
-
Succulents
Spending time with our daughter Hannah in Southern California included a walk through the Huntington Gardens in San Marino. These interesting, non-prickly succulents caught my attention.

Above Van Nuys
The view from our plane flying over an interesting line up of smaller jets at the Van Nuys airport.
-
Above Tejon Pass
Afternoon light catches the snow and furrows of eroded hillsides near Tejon Pass during our flight heading down to Los Angeles.
-
Above Central Valley
A canal snakes along the divide between geometric fields and brown hills along the southwest edge of the Central Valley.
-
Above Yosemite
Flying from Spokane to Los Angeles at the end of January, our plane took us over Yosemite Valley with El Capitan’s white cliffs visible just below the iconic Half Dome.
-
Shasta
Fresh snow blanketed the slopes of 14,000-foot tall Mt. Shasta as we drove north out of the Central Valley of California. Glad that the snow stayed high up above the freeways we traveled into Oregon.
